My son is a pitcher and outfielder. He really should be wearing his glasses while playing, but currently does not. Contacts irritate his eyes. We have checked into sports type glasses (almost like a small goggle w/band backing). Is a pitcher allowed to wear presciption sunglasses (transisition lenses) on the mound. We are trying to cover both pitching and fielding. I'm sure there are many parents that have faced this problem. I would love to hear any solutions one can offer. Thank you in advance.

I've never heard of an umpire telling a kid he couldn't wear his prescription glasses ... even pitchers ... so why not allow sunglasses? It's not like it's a distraction to the batter like items worn on the throwing arm.

Maybe you'd have to make an exception though and ban those sunglasses with the holographic skulls Smile

If they say it's a safety issue ... say it's safer to be able to see the ball in the first place. I've seen plenty of umpires wear sunglasses behind their mask ... and they're on the receiving end of every pitch.
Junior just started wearing glasses this year. Preseason scrimmage, pre-game infield, coachwalking around the field called to him, just as OF threw one into 2nd - you can guess where thr throw hit him - 2 week old glasses in pieces, cut eye, chipped tooth later - we decide to get the rec-specs w/ transition lenses - they have worked well for him. No night games yet. One team griped about the "glare" off his glasses - I think it had more to do with the 3 hitter he was handing them. I'm about to start a new post - article about him in today's paper - there is a pic of him wearing them - check 'em out.
