My 2015 son has had a few coaches request that he fill out their college's recruiting questionaire.
I am hesitant to allow him to do so at this point. While he is successful right now(high level summer team and varsity starter last year), the hope is that he will only get better over the next couple of seasons.
My question is two-fold:
If he fills out the questionaires now, can he fill the same ones out again later with updated information?
and
Is it rude if he does not fill out the questionaires when requested to do so?
Thanks! I am grateful to have this site as a resource!

Welcome to HSBBWeb! You have come to the right place for comments and advise.

My advise would be to fill out all questionaires requested in a timely manner. It gets your son in the system for that particular college and they start a file on him. They either know he is a 2015, or will treat it accordingly when they get the questionaire back. There will be plenty of time for these particular schools to follow up and update their files Wink

Best of luck to you son going forward and enjoy the journey.
As a parent of a 2015, I found myself wondering the same thing, especially as there are often questions he can't yet answer (for instance, he won't have a "cumulative GPA" for another three weeks, which is the end of his first semester of HS!). While I'm not in any particular hurry - and can't imagine the schools really are, either - ultimately I found myself thinking very much as birdman14 suggests: it can't hurt to get in their system. If they continue to have interest in your son, they can ask for additional or updated info (which might provide an opportunity for you to have an indication of their interest at a time you might not otherwise get it), and if your son continues to have a keen interest in the school, it provides him with a good excuse to make contact and express that interest, ask where he stands with the school, and whether/how they might like to have his information updated.

One other thing: just out of curiousity, BL/TR, how does a 2015 (current freshman) make the HS varsity last year, as an 8th grader? In my neck of the woods, that's not even allowed (not to mention that even freshman occupy under 5% of all roster spots in our conference, so even a freshman playing varsity is pretty rare). Or are you talking about a middle school or junior high school varsity?

If you are talking about a HS varsity as an 8th grader, that's a very impressive accomplishment, especially if it is at a good baseball school of decent size. If so, I'd be in a bit more of a hurry to fill out those questionnaires....
Edgar,
Sounds like we are in the same boat! It's great to hear your perspective.
My 2015 is in private school, so 8th grade varsity is permissable. Since he was able to contribute and had considerable playing time, it was a good experience.
About the GPA - I suppose I will tell my son to use his midterms and the few hs credit courses he took last year. (???)
Good luck to you and your 2015.
Good luck to you, too, BL/TR. As more than a few here have advised me, I am sure we will encounter some ups and downs and more than a few bumps in the road over the next four years, and it is good to keep that perspective of where exactly we are right now, but it does sound like your son is off to a very good start!

Yeah. . .been there done that (son went through private school, did great as a Freshman starter in HS and college) As suggested, fill out all forms requrested as best as possible. It's good to keep the college coaches interested, so don't ignor them. Don't worry about filling out any GPA grades until he has a HS GPA as anything prior really has little or no meaning for college. Enjoy your sons time in HS baseball as much as possible as it'll go by faster than you think. Wishing the very best to you and your son.
