Hey, I'm a Junior in high school, from New England. I have a few questions on College ball, specifically JUCO'S. So, I am aware that there are different Divisions in JUCO ball (D1, D2 and D3). I was curious about how these Divisions are assigned, and if it has an affect on Division 1 coaches. I guess what I'm asking is, are D2 and D3 JUCOS less competitive/ do they not have good programs? Would a division 1 coach look into a D2 or D3 Juco when looking to recruit players? There aren't many Junior Colleges for baseball in New England, and the few that are do not look very competitive and look rather off the radar to any Division 1 Coaches/ Scouts. I'm looking for a career in baseball, would it be a good idea to play for a Juco that may be off the radar, or is that a bad choice in the long run for my career? This is kind of I confusing question, but I just need a few things cleared up.

Any info would be helpful, Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly how the D1, D2, D3 classifications are determined.  I'm sure it is something the school applies for.  The JuCo my son attends and is on the baseball team is D2 for baseball, but D1 for soccer.

I wouldn't say D1 JuCo's are any less competitive than D2 or D3 JuCo's.  My son's D2 JuCo played a D1 JuCo their first series and only lost by 1 run in each game with the 2nd game going 11 innings.

I know you probably want to stay in the NE, but truthfully many of the better baseball teams are in the south.  My son's JuCo (D2) is in Region X which covers WV, VA, NC, SC with the bulk of the JuCo's with baseball programs in North Carolina and most are pretty competitive.  And all JuCo's in Florida are D1's except 1 - only 1 D2 in Florida and nearly every JuCo in Florida has a baseball program.

D1's do have the advantage of being able to offer more than just athletic scholarships.  A HS teammate of my son was offered a full athletic scholarship and monthly stipend to cover living expenses from a D1 JuCo in Texas.   D2's can only offer athletic scholarships.

Good luck in your search.
