I seem to be one of those guys that always ends up driving to wherever we are going for whatever reason. This summer my son is going to the Dominican to play ball, and although I asked, they haven't installed a bridge yet, so the boy has to fly. So, here is the questions; Any issues in the airport with the bats?

What did yall do to protect his equipment (i'm a little paranoid about his stuff after it got stolen last summer, I don't buy him cheap gloves)?

And last but not least, for the catchers out there; Did the catchers bag cost more to fly to your particular destination than the catcher cost to fly there?

When my son and I flew down to Virginia last year the guy at the ticket counter said I could bring the bats on the plane.  Are you sure, I said.  He replied yes.  Several minutes later I had to run back to the counter to check the bats when they wouldn't let me get past security.  Stupid me, I said to myself.

As for his glove and the other small items I stash them in his carry-on.  I hate the thought of losing the bats, but a glove and all is other stuff would be much harder to replace.  That's my .02 cents.

What we have done in the past 5 years or so and still do is put his equipment (bats, helmet, shin guards, catcher's mask and other baseball stuff in a cheap vinyl golf bag.  Check this bag in as you would with golf clubs.  This insures they arrive safe and are placed with the more expensive golf club bags other than the usual passenger bags.  My two cents, spend them wisely.
