Don’t be too quick to feel your “field guy” is in the wrong here. That person probably spends one Hell of a lot of time working on the fields, and takes it personally when someone is doing something he feels is doing more damage than good.

 

I seriously doubt your mounds are made out of ag lime since that’s more of a soil amendment  than a soil type. I could guess at what’s going on, but chances are I’d be wrong. I suppose in general it has something to do with changing the consistency of the soil that there though.

 

Why not just talk to the guy and find out what the problem he has with you and the quick dry?
