when I look at velocities for numerous kids at perfect game events there are some pretty wide changes in velocity from tournament to tournament and even day to day. Same kids and max velos change 5-6 mph. Up or down. My sons max velocity is pretty consistent within a mph or two.  Do a lot of kids actually gain/lose that much velocity in a few days or a week or does it depend on which field/gun you are on?  I use PG as an example because they do a good job of posting results but I am sure this applies to others as well.  4-6 mph is a huge difference when you are talking about 86 mph or 92 mph and I see it frequently.

I have found numerous instances where this is a result of a reading that came from a batted ball. They usually scrub these, but with so many games, some get through. A kid throws one in at 85 and it gets hit foul off the bat at 90 and occasionally that gets missed and the kid gets credit for a 90 mph max velocity. I started noticing this last year and have found instances where Diamondkast is showing pitches at 83/83/83/83/83/91/83/83/83 and you notice the result on the 91 was a "single." You can bet it was an exit velocity that got recorded.
