I know this isn't much.....
Keewartson played on the baseball field there last summer. Very nice field and venue.
Radford is in a small town close to Blacksburg, VA (Virginia Tech).
Had a very good run in basketball in 2009.
Several of the players that played on keewartson's team (before he arrived) play at Radford.
Here is a very funny youtube account of a rain delay during one of the recent Highlander's games! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LElXeMS3EGk
My son went to camp there a few weeks ago. Why? He had a break in his playing schedule, it wasn't too far away, and their camp was inexpensive and a half-day. Basically, it was convenient. Really didn't know much about the school or have a serious interest in them, it was just the right place at the right time.
Nice campus and field. Good size school (9,500 students I believe). Head Coach Joe Raccuia addressed players, but also had a one hour Q&A with parents on recruiting. Nice, informative presentation. Radford coaching staff ran a good camp that kept the players moving. Everyone got two opportunities to do everything, two 60's, two turns defensively, two turns hitting on the field. Coach seemed like a good guy and was interested in getting players who were a good fit for his program and the school.
Coaches from DII's King (TN) and Concord (WV) were in attendance and assisting on the field. Coach Raccuia was involved on the field, hit grounders to infielders and was involved with all aspects of on-field evaluation.
There were players from 9 states in attendance.
My son and wife met with Head Coach Raccuia in his office a few years ago and were very impressed with him, his plans & approach. Radford did not offer my son's major, but he would have loved to have played for Coach Raccuia. My understanding is the facilities have continued to improve over the years, and Radford has become a "player" in the Big South.
my kid went to a camp there and I was not too happy with the way it was run, but in their defense it was about 28 degrees and the wind was howling so it was not much of a day for baseball. I did like Coach Raccuia though as he seems like a very no BS kind of guy.
Nice new stadium that is only a couple years old and the campus is very safe and clean looking to me. It also looks to me that in the last year or so they have taken it up a notch or two recruiting-wise and I think they will become even more of a 'player' in the Big South soon.
The New River runs right by the field so fishing and canoeing are big stress relievers if your kid is in to that. There is also the 'bikini-hatch' that occurs every spring that is good fun.
One thing I forgot to mention that Coach Raccuia mentioned in his address to the parents. He said: "With DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and Juco, there is a belief that if you want to play college baseball, then there is a place for you out there. Well that isn't true. There are still many more high schools than colleges, and there isn't always a place for someone to play."
Definitely a straight shooter.
My son is a current player at RU. He loves the school, the region (hard to beat the New River Valley) and Coach Raccuia. Coach Raccuia is as straight forward as anyone I have come across in college athletics. I wish my other children could have played for him.
be ready to party if you go there
Gosh, there's a unique quality for a college!
