In Minnesota the fields are wet and soggy from our huge mounds of still-melting snow. How about your part of the country - are your fields playable? Are you dealing with snow, or rain?

Here's what happened in 2009 while two college teams waited out a rain delay:

Our school system last year completed the new multimillion dollar sports complex including a new varsity and jv field. The varsity field is a completely turf field with lights and a great drainage system and the jv field may be as good as or better than most varsity fields in the area and has a fence, which is rare for jv fields.. The varsity field may be the only field in the area where games are playable. Too bad my son missed playing on this field by a couple of years so I could've gotten a bang for my tax buck....The old varsity field was like playing on a landmine and the jv field was even worse..LOL

In the Seattle area, the colleges have been playing since end of Feb (mostly elsewhere in the country, especially Texas). We've had postponements for both rain and snow.

High Schools got off and running last week but with rainouts galore; for those playing on dirt fields especially. Last Friday evening I watched a 4A HS game played for five innings on a turf field before the umpires called it for rain. One of the dads I was talking to said families in the southeast and southwest would be cracking up at the conditions in which these guys were laboring.

My son's (pre-high school) travel team played a tournament in Arizona the weekend before last and was reportedly the only team in the bracket that hadn't practiced outside yet.

Last but not least, I've had but one practice with my poor Bronco kids as we're relegated to city fields that are presently in horrible condition. I've told our parents we practice tonight, rain or not, regardless of field condition. The little guys need to run and throw, and soon.
