I know we are HS oriented, but I am listening to the last painful innings of the third straight loss to Detroit and the seventh straight loss period. By the end of the day, Texas could be 7 games out and we haven't reached the end of April. The Rangers started slow and fell out of contention early in 2007, the pattern continues this season. So the questions are:

1. When/will there be changes at the G.M. and Managers positions?

2. Should there be changes or is the "plan" in place to be good in 2-3 years, but suffer now?

3. Any reason to fork over money to watch this club until then unless you just love to go to a game?

I love the games, but it would be hard to fork over major league ticket prices for what we are seeing...

tychco - The GM and the Manager have to go. There's no way that there's a "plan" in place to be good in the coming years. Daniels has traded any pitching that would've made this team able to compete in the near future - or for that matter right now. We heard about Diamond, Danks, and Vulkez (sp?) for several years and they were supposed to be our saviors. Where are they now and what exactly did we get in return to put us over the proverbial hump? The answer to that is nada, nothing, zilch, zero. Our GM is barely old enough to buy a beer (although I'd suggest that he's been drinking something) and the manager comes across as an idiot. I wanted to believe that he would help this team by playing the role of a player's manager, but that route definitely isn't working.

I'm fully aware that the GM and the Manager can't play the game and therefore can't be blamed for high ERA's and errors, but there's no other obvious answer here.

We typically try to attend 2-3 games a season whether the team is winning or losing. But this year I doubt we go at all. Until the Rangers get some guys in there that look/act like they wanna be there, then I'm not going to line their pockets with my hard earned money. When I see guys jogging out pop-ups that get dropped, or watching what they think is a home run and only end up with a long single, then I refuse to go. Heck, I'm sure there are tons of guys that read/contribute to this board (I'm talking players and not dads Big Grin ) that would give anything to be where those major league players are.

I think we need an overhaul from the top down! And that starts with the OWNERSHIP. We need someone that's willing to spend the money on "quality" players and not trade those guys off to our competition.
Jewels hit on something I have seen for the first time, at least watching the Rangers over the years.

They loaf to first on pop ups and ground balls, they make errors on fairly routine balls where it looks like they just didn't focus. That speaks to coaching.

Pitching will always be an issue at the Ballpark, but those thingslisted above are inexcusable. Oates and Melvin found a way to win with all the excuses of the past Rangers teams.

I think Daniels and Washington will be gone within a month and Nolan Ryan will speed up the rebuilding process.
I actually thought Daniels made a good move in getting Hamilton from the Reds. I think both clubs made improvement with that trade, Volques (z) pitching well for the Reds and Hamilton playing pretty good for the Rangers. I think letting Danks go hurts the Rangers. Left Handed Power Pitchers don't come around very often. We now have to watch Danks flourish with the Sox over the next couple of years. When you listen to Daniels talk on the radio, he really sounds like he has something going on. But he has made some real bonehead moves. I gave up my season tickets several years ago when they traded A-Rod, and I have only been back to 2 games since.
I'm ready to see the team completely blown up. Laird, Blalock, Bird, and Cat need to go, as does Padilla. Its not that these guys can't play ball anymore, its just that they're taking AB's from guys that are ready, and completely displacing Duran. I also think Blalock and Laird could get some kind of a return.

I see a lot of names there (Especially Boggs and Arias) that I'm ready to see in the Rangers box score.
I have mixed feelings about the GM change... hear me out.

Yes I realize it'd be nice to have Chris Young, Adrian (sp?) Gonzalez, Edison Volquez, and more on the roster right now... but finally at the end of last year they made trades to get young talent in here. The last thing I want them to do is panic and start trading that away because fans are screaming that they are terrible. There are terrible. Terrible doesn't begin to describe it, but as a GM guy, as long as he's committed to the young talent, I don't care how many they lose right now. I think the way they are losing falls on the coach. Having said that, if they could get another GM that wouldn't start completely over and set us back even more, then I'm really not against it.

This is true, he has said it himself.

The only Ranger game I am going to see is July 2 against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. And...it won't be the Rangers I'll be rooting for!!!
My son had an interesting suggestion today. He likes to follow the English Premier League in s****r. He says baseball should do what they do - at the end of the season the top three "AAA" teams get to move up to the "BIGS" and the bottom three move down.

He said if MLB would do this the Rangers might be fun to watch 'cuz they might have a chance at the AAA level! Not a bad idea. Wink
