Interesting. My son has since graduated, but in his time on varsity, his school (and all the others they played) did not play walk up music. They did play music prior to the game and in-between innings.
It wasn't until he played college ball that they did walk up music.
Our son's HS received an email notifying the team of the rule, however, many teams continue to play it.
Couldn't care less either way.
Just goes to show that if you give a committee unlimited rule-making powers, they will fill their time thinking of all the "helpful" things they could impose. Just puts the VHSL right there with Williamsport and the NCAA.
My thinking is that this has no impact on the VHSL's mission and they would be better advised to butt out of things that don't concern them.
If a player chooses a song with inappropriate lyrics, that can be dealt with by the coaches and the school administration. Beyond that I don't see the harm in this and if a team wants it, to me it's their decision.
BTW it's SOP at the NCAA and pro levels so it's not like this is something controversial.
