Hey now! I am a counselor (HS the last 4 years but this year back at Elem) and married to an AD. heehee We are big advocates for the Guide. I did guidance lessons in the English classes on what kids need to be taking, what counts as a core course, etc. I actually had to learn it because there were athletes really interested in playing college sports. Then my own kid was interested, so it became very important to me. I will tell you that the last two counseling coferences I have been to had a break out session on NCAA Clearinghouse, so they are trying to make sure counselors get the word out. I still ask all my son's friends, hey have you registered? Also, my son and I met a retired counselor this summer and when she found out my son was interested in playing college ball, the first thing she asked me was whether we had registered with the clearninghouse. Same here at my son's HS - also, the county school system had NCAA requirements listed in the class catalog they distributed to all HS students every year. No problem here finding out what he needed to know Smile

In 2004, we had a booth at the Massachusetts guidance counselors convention in Hyannis. We spoke to probably over 70-80 counselors that day who all said they were completely lost on the recruiting process and that we were doing a really great thing with our websites, information and books. We sold 5 books that day and 4 of them were to other vendors who were not counselors. We signed up 40+ people for our newsletter and never heard from a single one again. We gave out discount order forms for that show only and didn't receive one back.

In 2005 we skipped the booth but were asked to do an hour long seminiar and a 15 minute roundtable. We had 40+ counselors attend our seminar all who filled out a survey saying it was great information and well presented. About 20+ counselors inquired about seminars for the fall.

Followed up with everyone and never heard back from one counselor again.

The majority of people we spoke to were really great people who liked what they did and wanted to help their students succeed but the majority of people we spoke to had little understanding of NCAA rules and regulations and basic recruiting procedures.

They seemed to really want help at the time, but then seem to dissapear later.
