I agree with DBAT 18 GM that Chris Edelstein is very good, but I'd like to add another one to the mix. Danny Florence @ Frozen Ropes in McKinney is as good as they come when it comes to hitting instruction. He works with many major league players in the off-season such as Torii Hunter, Choo Freeman, Craig Munroe and several others.

Go to www.frozenropestx.com and you can find out how to contact him.

You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion.
What OP says about Danny Florence is true. From personal experience he is one of the best in the area. My son took lessons from him during high school and the results were outstanding. I also might add Danny is a very good pitching instructor. My son is working with him this summer. Bottom line you really can't go wrong with either of the instructors mentioned.
For hitting instruction, my son has been going to Luis Ortiz at Athletic Village in Keller since early summer. Luis has taken my son from a nonhitter (watching strikes go by) to someone that can put the ball in play......

I would also highly recommend taking a lesson at DBAT. I just returned from my son's first pitching lesson at this facility and we both walked away very impressed with not only the level of instruction and but with their new facility it is TOP NOTCH... I still can't believe I have been around this sport as long as I have and have never been to DBAT........ what was I thinking??????.............

It was great to finally put lots of faces to monikar's....These are great guys....

Thanks Kyle for your assistance today in the Pro Shop and for the recommendation! Smile

Panther Proud,

What you said about the pitching instruction Danny does is true. He is the one that has developed Adam Miller, the Cleveland Indians #1 pick in 2003 out of McKinney HS and is now the #1 prospect in the Indians organization. Danny started working with Adam when he was 12-13 years old and is still his main pitching coach when he's back home during the winter. Some of the arm speed training Frozen Ropes does is amazing. Adam threw 93-94 in HS and has thrown as hard as 101mph in the last year.

Danny is very good at what he does and has forgotten more than most of us have known!
This summer my son started lessons with Shane Davenport after KellerDad recommended him in an earlier similar thread. My son has always hit hard line drives and the deep fly ball to the warning track but had never hit one over the fence at any age. He is not a big kid so his High School coaches smile and tease him to hit the weight room when he hits one off the wall. After his first lesson with Shane he hit three home runs in his next five games. It’s the best money I ever spent. The grin on his face was priceless and he can’t wait to show the coaches how he spent his summer.
IMHO....(and that's all it is, an opinion) there is not a better instructor of the correct baseball swing than Cade at DBAT. His style of teaching, his demeanor with kids, everything he promotes is positive and encouraging. He won't waste your time, or his, if the effort, and ability is not there.

Cade is the best, and a close second is Trey Combs who is tied with Chris E at DBAT for my top honors.

The age of your player should help you make a determination, as no instructor can give every ten year old a major league swing, but many instructors can help a younger player have better mechanics, and a better foundation for hitting at higher levels as they progress through the age appropriate levels of baseball.

My suggestion before actually choosing which instructor to work with, is to choose several, and have them evaluate your childs swing, and provide you with their feedback on what they can improve, and what is needed for your child.

Take the evaluations, feedback from your child about who they liked working with, and then choose one.
