Greetings. I was recently on another forum topic regarding choosing a bat. It turns out I am going to have to move my son to a -5 BBCOR in order to play in our local league with his soon to be HS teammates (he is in 7th grade). We will continue to use a -8 Combat in our travel play. This should not be a huge problem for my son, and will actually help his progression. He is used to seeing some good pitching during travel, and I don't expect to see much good/fast pitching at this local level, so the extra weight shouldn't be a huge problem. My question is which -5 BBCOR bat seems to be the most popular? What should I to look to buy? I will be looking at new models that still have warranty that are from 2011-12. They will be less expensive, and should be battle tested (and I already bought his travel bat). Any feedback on drop 5 BBCOR's would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ohio - please be aware that BBCOR bats are only available as a -3. Typically, -5 bats are referred to as Senior League or something like that. If the league calls for BBCOR, -3 is your only choice in a non-wood bat.
As eyeonetheball indicated if you need BBCOR you are limited to -3. You'll likely need to go short to compensate for the added weight. There are a small handful of BBCOR bats that go down to 29-30 inches. The "perfect" bat may be tought to find.
If you can go with a drop 5, my suggestions are the Demarini voodo, lousiville slugger omaha or exogrid, and maybe the easton s series. Kind of depends on what type of hitter your son is.
Thanks guys. I believe the league guy gave me some bad information. I am discussing with him now. I will be researching for myself also. Appreciate the info, and please keep the recommendations coming for -5's, and also BBCOR's. Thanks!
Marucci Cat 5 is a -5. My son loved that bat. It's alloy, but he prefers that "ping" when he hits it. He was also in 7th grade at the time.
I believe rawlings makes a -5 Velo

Correct. They make a Velo and a 5150 in -5's.
Demarini Voodoo or CF5
Easton XL, my son started with -5 last year and now has a -3 to start his transition. He loves the bat. Great pop and he really loves the grip on the -3.

Have him swing a friends or team mates bat and then decide. Its personal preference. The only thing he needs to be aware of is, does he prefer an end weighted bat,( Voodoo, XL1 etc..) or a balanced bat like (CF5, S1, 5150 etc...) all good bats.
