My son was contacted by Coach Smith at Creighton University as a potential recruit. He was invited to a small "Clinic" That he is participating in during the recruiting dead period.
Coach Smith has been very responsive back and forth via e-mail with me regarding questions which leads me to believe this was not just a template e-mail sent out to many players.
He stated that he had gotten my sons name from a friend on the East Coast that gave him a list of quality players to look at. He said he comes east and does this clinic to avoid having potential east coast players from having the expense of traveling out to the university.
This is a small clinic with only 48 players attending. There will be coaches from three other colleges participating in the clinic, Villanova, ST. Joe's and George Mason.

I had been thinking about contacting the coaches at the other three schools to let them know that my son would be attending the clinic but am now having second thoughts about doing this. Does anyone have any opinion as to whether or not my contacting the other schools might offend Coach Smith at Creighton since he has specifically been contacting my son and I have heard nothing from the other schools?

Why would they contact you. Coach Smith got a list that he may have even paid for. He has never seen your son . The other coaches have no idea your son exists. They get lists from tournaments and showcases. They even get players on the list to recommend other players that might like to attend. This is a common practice.
It is probably a fund raiser. I say that because he is letting the other coaches have a shot at the players who will attend. If he was really interested he would make a point of seeing him. At the camp he may like your son or he may not.
Sounds hinky to me, but I am a natural skeptic when it comes to college camps. I'm skeptical that he was vague about the source for you sons name. In situations where there was a scout or other interested party that referred my son, they volunteered where the information came from to legitimize their contact.

If it were a $50 camp my skepticism would be vastly reduced, if it were a $300 camp, my skepticism meter would be pinned.

I remember a similar post last year.
This is how coaches find players, invite 200 and perhaps 30-50 will attend, there is nothing wrong with it. He seems to be coordinating it for a few others as well. Recruiting is a business and this is how they do it.

Why not call the other coaches to see if they will be attending. If your son has interest in them it might be worthwhile.

Coaches find players in different ways, their camps, others camps and tournaments. Don't take offense they have invited quite a few.
Thanks to all for your replies.
TPM your response is my thinking also.
I am sure Coach Smith got my sons name off of some list provided to him.
Since My son is just getting started in the recruiting process so I know he did not actually see him play yet.
I am comfortable with him getting a look because he was on a list and then showing skills to catch the coaches attention. I assumed thats how it would work in this situation.

Again thanks to all for your responses.
We got the same letter for junior and senior years. Son CALLED Coach Smith to find out their level of interest in him. Coach Smith didn't really know who my son was but said to come to one of the camps and he could get a better look at him.

Bottom line is like others have said. If the school that you are interested in will be attending then go (if you can afford it). If not then file in the circular folder.
