Son has been talking to certain schools that have recently change coaches.Since the change have occured so have the calls and emails.I'll use Notre Dame and LSU as example.Son has spoke with ND before change but has not heard from coaches that departed for LSU.Will their prospect list change since academic requirements are a little less demanding.

Interesting question C21. I've always wondered about these "lists". I'm sure they exist but have never actually seen one. But my daughter ('06 grad) was recruited by a school pretty heavily and then the coach left/quit......interestingly, the new coach never sent her an e-mail or anything. Did he have other porspects of his own in mind? Did the outgoing coach take "the list"? Did the new coach bring his own list?
Breezer,

My son spoke with the new coach at a school where he had been in previous contact with the outgoing coach. When he was asked to complete the paper work my son told the new coach he had submitted the paperwork earlier, the new coach told him the outgoing coach boxed all contact information and took it with him. (Cleaned out the files)

C21,

Did the old coach take his assistants with him? If not, did your son have any contact with them? Like any type of regular job, you may need to restablish communication with the new person in charge. I wouldn't rely on the old coach turning over his recruiting list to the new guy. Like D4B mentioned, that list if it exists may be in a box being unpacked somewhere.
My understanding is that recruting lists belong to the school, not the coach or staff.
But I also understand that these lists exist on discs. Big Grin
If a coach that has been recruiting son leaves and goes to another school, and your son likes that coach, by all means give him a call.

However, remember, it may be the right coach but not the right school.
C21..I speak from experience here. My daughter and another player from her club volleyball team were recruited heavily by a coach who ended up leaving for another school. In this case, he knew he wanted several players being recruited to come with him to the new school and he left the remaining players on a list for the old school.

What happened was what you would expect. The new coach was shorted. He missed on some recruits and his recruiting year was weak. So, I would tell you that coaches keep their list pretty close to the vest. I wouldn't expect calls from the incoming staff. Call them. I did.
When you get really involved with recruiting, its shocking how intertwined it all is. My son received offers from several schools who now seem to be shifting coaches. I guess its just coincidental, but he turned down several coaches who ended up at schools who also made him offers. How weird would that have been? He was on both school's lists, so I guess the coach would be happy to get you in the end, not really caring how it happened.

We were very uneducated about coach turn-over. You can't predict what will motivate a coach to change jobs. Pretty scary from a player's perspective. I know you choose a college you love, but ending up with coaches you didn't plan on could be quite an adjustment. You really chose a package with many factors (baseball, academics, coaching staff, location, scholarship offer, conference, weather, etc) and I guess you just hope things remain constant for 4 more years.

Valuable life-lesson.....
