Suppose it could be a bug off saying, or the coach wants to make sure that he is actually going after someone and not having an annoying "tag-along".
I will say on the other end there was a guy that got recruited from a nearby HS last year. That HS coach knew the college coach and told him he had 2 more players looking for somewhere to play and the college coach went to recruiting them too and ended up with all 3. Now the college coach was needing quite a few players from what I remember someone saying and I will say that all 3 were good solid players.

Just curious. Has anyone ever heard a college head coach say something to the tune of "We never recruit two players from the same high school."?

Is this a legit recruiting policy of some programs? Or just a handy means of telling a player to bug off? What say ye? Anyone?
I would think any college coach in his right mind would recruit any player that meets the coach's needs, regardless of how many come from the same high school. I would read between the lines if I was you.
A quick glance at this particular coach's roster indicates that he has three players from the same highschool on his current team, and a couple other sets of players who came from the same highschool. It would appear that the coach either lied (imagine that), or that he said something entirely different and his words were simply mis-interpereted. It could be that he really meant "we don't recruit a player just because he has a friend or classmate who plays for us" (In other words, we only take players who fill our needs). Duh!

The player who was told this by the coach happened to have a teammate (who was also his best friend) who was signed as a pitcher by this coach in 2007.
