Fairly new to this site. Have an opinion question. My son 2011 grad received a written scholarship offer from a D1 school during the month of July 2010 and he verbally accepted. I know early signing is coming up and we have not heard from any of the coaches since. Is this unusal? I know they are winding up fall practices, but sure thought we would have heard something from them. Thought we would have received a LOI by now?

Thanks

berryball,
Welcome to the HSBBW.
The written offer your son received during the summer and the verbal acceptance is not binding in it's agreement from either party. I find it sad that coaches spend lots of time trying to recruit a player, gets him to committ and then suddenly all goes silent. How do they know your son didn't change his mind, how do you know they didn't either. BTW, it works both ways, your son could have contacted them as well. Mine spoke to his future coach often up until the dead period and the same until he set foot on campus. It gave him a lot of insight as to what type of person he was, and he wasn't disappointed. Of course we also understood that being a potential draft pick it was important for him to keep in touch, but not hearing anything from a coach for months becomes a bit unsettling, especailly before signing day.

I don't know the dates of early signing, but your son will receive the NLI a day or two before with instructions.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I agree he should have stayed in contact from them, but the offer they made was full and when he called to accept, the recruiter was pumped and said he was their first contact. His grades are great and ACT score was high enough to get into any school. They scouted him real hard over the last 2 summers and he did not do anything im my opnion to change their minds since July? I was curious is this out of the norm or should he and I be worried?
berryball pick up the phone and call the coach. Ask them whats up. Tell him you understand they are busy with fall baseball but you were wondering why it has been so long since you have heard from them. This will give you all the answers you are looking for. My son never went more than a week without one of the coaches calling him and just checking in. I not saying anything is wrong. There is nothing wrong imo with your son calling the coach and checking in with them. And imo they should be doing the same.

Talked to the coach today and he said the NLI was going out today. Should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for the advice. We can now now stop worrying. Great feeling. Put alot of hard work in to accomplish this.

Thanks again!

Whew... I was afraid this was going to end badly. Congratulations berryball, enjoy the moment!
