I'm sure this has been discussed but wanted quick feedback on whether there's value in joining services like berecruited and baseballfactory, if you already have made a video and are going directly to coaches/schools of interest.

Do coaches really use those sites for "outbound" searches for players or are they just good repositories of videos, stats, photos etc.

Your best bet is to approach the coaches of the schools that best suite your son's academic career. Joining a recruiting service is great, but if you target schools that your son is interested in their academics it will show that you are interested in joining THAT team rather than ANY team.

See what I mean?
Oldest son went to baseballfactory event a few years ago, it helped attract some attention from a few D3 schools who mentioned they saw his video/eval but none of the D1 schools who reached out mentioned it. That doesn't prove anything, just thought I'd mention it. It would seem to me a valuable resource for a D3 coach who has to dig deeper for talent, often late in the recruiting year.
Berecruited is so cheap, we figure 'why not.' It had some views when we 1st set it up. One or two coaches contacted him from it, and we keep his video posted there, and we update the academic info.

But honestly the direct email to his target list of coaches with a 'here is the link to my bull pen video on You Tube' has been far more effective.

Baseball Factory is a different story, I think there are higher fees involved.

A tip I picked up from someone else on this board, was to add his You Tube link and his NCAA number (along with his position and his grad year which he always had) to the automatic signature at the end of the emails he sends out.

You Tube is great for recruiting videos.
I often talk about the parallels between the recruiting process and a job search.

With that in mind, many "recruiting services" remind me of "Monster.com" of high school sports. Monster.com has been around a long time, but for some reason I've never met anyone that has ever directly gotten a job off of it.

This doesn't mean not to use one. Many have good tools for communication (such as updated contact info, etc). Just keep your expectation in check.

No matter if you use a "recruiting service" or not you will need to be able to be seen.

Play In School is not a "recruiting service". We make "recruiting videos". Some of our athletes have use our videos in conjunction with "recruiting services" such as NCSA, BeRecruited, Captain U, etc.

Remember that a recruiting video is like a resume. A resume is not meant to get you hired. A recruiting video is not meant to get you signed. But they help get you to the next round of evaluation (the interview or playing live in front of a recruiter and actually having them know who you are!).
