If you have a good video put together with BP, 1B Defense, and Pitching from the mound, is that good enough for college coaches to decide if they like a player?  Can they tell how fast someone's swing is from the video, how fast they are throwing the ball, etc.?

I ask because my son recently decomitted, and we have put together a video.  He has sent it to about 25 colleges, and we plan to send it to more. He has received 3 or 4 responses.  I am just wondering if some of them weren't looked at, because he sent them a link to his website which has a link to the You Tube Video.  I am worried for my son, since it is so late in the game, and I want to make sure we are doing everything possible.  I also wonder if the video would show that he is an elite player, or if it would show that he is not.

I'm assuming he decommitted from a D1? Is he a 2014 or 15?    I guess the first thing I would do is send an email to all the other schools that originally were recruiting him.  I don't think a video will get him any offers....but if he looks good enough (coaches will know) he could very well get some calls...and at least get some conversations started with some coaches.  I can't imagine that any school is going to make him an offer without seeing him in person....but I guess you never know.  Anything you can do to get him some initial contact is a good thing.  Good luck

Yes, it was a D-1, but ultimately, he decided it wasn't a good fit.  I was really just wondering how valuable the film would be in the process, and if an evaluator would be able to gleen much from it.  We realize he will have to attend some events this fall, so we are hoping to garner some attention so that coaches would want to come out and see him.

Agree with Buckeye's advice.

I tell my son to make everything as easy as possible for the reader. I would have him include a direct link to the youtube video, too. And his mobile number. Possibly a still picture that shows his size. Anything else that will get their attention quickly, like high GPA or SAT/ACT.

Best case will probably be for the video to get them interested enough to call him. From there he will need to get in front of them. Start of list of fall/winter camps for the schools on his short list. Have him call and find out where else those schools will be recruiting in the next few months.

On the positive side, everyone needs pitching, and 1Bs are often the last position they fill. Good luck.

rynoattack,

Some good advice given above.I watched both videos on youtube. The first thing I would do is correct the spelling error.Go look at it now. This spelling error prevents the link from showing up on a google search for your son.

I would make an academic and athletic profile page for your son.Include the youtube link,PG link,SAT/ACT scores,GPA,and school profile in future emails.Add some live game footage of your son hitting if you have it.Use the profile page and video links as his business card.It won't necessarily get you recruited, but it WILL put you on some coaches radars.

The next thing I would do is expand your list of schools to include high academic D3's.I believe your son was originally committed to one of the academies so he must have excellent grades and test scores.

If I were you I would make sure my son was at this event :

The sign up deadline is drawing near so I would not hesitate. This event is always well attended by high academic schools D1,D2,D3,NAIA are all at this showcase.Probably the best bang for your buck in the fall.

One last thing, make sure he is targeting schools that are realistic for him academically, athletically, socially and financially.Otherwise you'll be wasting a lot of time.

Good luck to your son !
