Redshirt Question

Another in a long list of redshirt questions.....Player goes directly to JC out of high school and plays two years at JC. After, he secures non-scholarship roster spot with DI but doesn't play in what's now his 3rd year of school. Is he eligible for redshirt this 3rd year?

In D1, a player has eligibility until 5 calendar years after he first entered a college full time or he has finished 4 seasons of competition, whichever occurs first. A player who has competed for 2 season (in this case at the JC), and who doesn't compete in his 3rd year of college still has two more calendar years (4th and 5th years) in which to complete his 2 remaining seasons of competition.
