Districts 1 and 2 saw two rivalries live up to expectations in Monday action, contests that could affect tournament pairings:
D-1 Science Hill avenged an earlier one run loss to Sullivan South with a 7-6 win in Johnson City. Matt McGahey (JC) and Hunter Fish (SS) were locked in a tight duel when the 'Toppers broke through for a late 6-1 lead. The Rebels battled back to tie 6-6. Science Hill wins in the bottom of the 7th following a towering triple off the center field fence by McGahey and Murphy's pop up in the infield was lost in the lights. McGahey gave up 9 hits, 6 walks, 8 k's. Fish, 8 hits, 4 walks, 10 k's. Science Hill moves to top of Big 7 by 1/2 game over South. These two teams aren't fond of one another.
D-2 The intensity was also high in Morristown where East was host to West. East's ace DeWayne McBee and West's Matt Spencer were in top form with the score knotted at 1-1 after 8 innings. Both starters gave way to relievers. Spencer, who also homered in the 4th to tie the game, led off the 10th with a double and later beat the throw to the plate on an infield grounder. That opened the flood gates. West plated 4 more, East got one back in the bottom half. Final West 6 East 2 in 10 inns. McBee gave up 6 hits and fanned 10. Spencer gave up 4 hits and struck out 17.
Two top contests in Region One.
