Since this is my thread, I wanna give our guys some props on their play last night. DMN didn't give anyone from Rock credit as they're all about PW being perfect and you had to be there to see. That's a big deal (perfect), I understand, but Rockwall took PW to the edge last night. In the end, PW found a way out with some help from 2 BBs in the 7th. Our guys came in with 11 losses, unranked and unrated in the area as someone said. They faced the giant and came out on bottom but once the sting is gone, they can smile in the face of defeat.

Garrett Henderson had 2 doubles and both Rockwall RBIs. Of those, one was with 2 outs in the 6th with a tie game against a fresh Johnson, just entering the game, to put Rockwall up 2-1. Henderson also made a nice play at first in the 1st, throw home to catcher Inmon to prevent an early score.

Inmon had 2 throw outs of runners at 2nd attempting steals that were big.

Rockwall defense committed no errors and turned 3 double plays to hold down the powerful PW offense.

Rockwall had runners on 2nd and 3rd twice and again on 2nd that they couldn't push across in the middle innings.

On the mound for Rockwall, Ballew went toe-to-toe with Flora, allowing only the 1 run in the 2nd that was the result of a walk and a run scored during the turning of a DP. He was a bit erratic at times, missing close, but made the pitches when he needed and sat down some big sticks.

Thru 6 innings, Ballew allowed only 4 hits and 1 run and stayed in to try and close it out in the 7th after Flora was gone with a no decision. PW was scoreless with only 2 hits in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. Hughes had 2 hits including a long 2B to cf but the other big PW hitters were held down. Except that Kiser guy...

In the 7th, Ballew got in trouble with a lead-off walk. The next guy K'd after failing to execute a bunt and the subsequent batter walked on 3-2 after also not executing the bunt. That set Kiser up for what I'd say is the most perfect bunt a guy can put down that caught the Rockwall 3 bagger back and on his heels. Not sure why they had him back in that situation. Kiser was on base all night and wasn't going to hit hard to 3rd. He was up the middle or pulling, except for the bunt.

That set Holmes up for the game winner that he stroked. It was hard hit. I don't think it was going to OK except for the wall and Tiger wouldn't care.

There was a comment that Johnson blew a save. That's not right. Flora left with a no decision with the game knotted at 1-1. Johnson didn't come in a save situation. He relinquished the lead on Henderson's hit then came away with the win.

What I remember about PW: Kiser, Kiser, and Kiser. On base all night and a great stop at SS early to prevent a run. Man, he hit the ball hard. I would have enjoyed watching him if I hadn't been on the opponents side.
[Edited: My mistake. Looking at a pic I guess that's Holmes at SS that made the great stop, not Kiser. Kiser is the 2B?]

Flora got an ND but had most Rockwall hitters missing all night and I was impressed with the number of 1st pitch strikes he threw to get ahead of the hitters.

I hope we play close again tonite and maybe sneak out with one. I'm sure if we make mistakes PW will make us pay.

No intended disrespect of PW here in case someone reads my comments that way. Just wanna give our guys credit for good play while being big underdogs.

Yep, it ended for us tonight.

Plano West 6 5 1
Rockwall 4 7 0

The big stat tonight besides the score was the Base on Balls category. We had 7+. Too much to overcome. At one point the hits were 3-1 Rockwall but they had 5 runs and we had 0. We had hard luck in two innings of guys on base with hard hit line drives right at the defense and the runners couldn't get back. A few feet to either side and the balls go through for hits. Instead we quickly lose 2 outs. That's how it goes.

Good luck to PW and the rest still playing. Somebody needs to bring the championship back to the metroplex.
Congats to all you senior parents at Rockwall on a great run.
Your kids played thier hearts out and left everything on the field.
The emotions are tough and very hard on the kids as well as the parents as they walk off the field for the last time.
Good luck to all as they move on to the next chapter of their very young lives
Congratulations to Rockwall on their series against PW. You guys gave one of the top teams in the nation a run for their money. I knew you guys would have a great season this year with the talent you had. You should be proud.

OPSon and I enjoyed our time with you guys 2 years ago. It's memories we will never forget. Best of luck to all of you seniors as you move on to the next phase of your lives.

Wow! You must be a bummed fan or a disgruntled player.

or disgruntled parent. Based upon the number of Bum's posts, it's one of the three.

Always plenty of second-guessers out there after a loss, not many when you win.

I believe the Coach at the Rock may have done his best coaching job yet, considering some of the key player losses he had during the year.

As for Cody Fields, great kid and he'll be a very nice lefty pickup for some college program.

Actually, I hope he heads west just a little ways.
Bummed,

How many games have you seen Cody play in order to make your opinion? Appearently not many. I have known Cody for a lot of years and it bothers me that you call yourself a fan but then come out and blast a qood ballplayer, and a quality person, like Cody. You sir, are not a fan.

Your team got beat by the number one team in the country but they gave them a run for their money. If you don't have any kids on the team then get over it. Don't come on here and tell everyone a certain player is overrated when your just upset your team didn't win!

By the way, Cody Fields could play on my team any day!!! Good player, good student, and an even better person. Someone Bummedfan could learn from.

Bummed,One of the main reason Rockwall was where they were at is because of CF.Where do you get off running down a kid that gives everything he has to help the team in any way he can.I personaly have seen the kid pitch numerous BIG GAMES in which I would say he is not overratted!Granted he did not pitch his best game last night but his team was still in the game at the end.How do know what college brings for CF or what CF brings to a college, you don't know, and no one else knows. Is it really fair for you to come on line and degrade the character, heart and committment of such an outstanding individual as CF whose future is bright?BTW I have no kid on the team either just a TRUE BASEBALL FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bummed,

Not the parent of none you mentioned, but I know all of them well. Each of those you've mentioned our all fine young men, like many others who play the game. They play a game called baseball, because they are good enough to play and compete.

The fact that you take some pleasure making negative comments about young high school players, really bothers me. Most people that make comments like you, never played the game and are frustrated because they couldn't cut it or there kid didn't.

Take some prozac and go kick your dog.
Rockall fans are the ones that were dressed in orange cheering on the team in the 7th inning in McKinney as the team took the field to try and hold down the PW offense one more time. I could hardly watch as Rock son delivered that last pitch and walked off the field, head down, as the celebration on erupted on the other side and he was left wondering "what if?"

Those fans could be seen and heard in Duncanville as they rallied the Yellowjacket players who were fighting to come from behind to keep the season alive for one more day. And the seniors and their parents, knew that if the rally failed, the gorgeous sunset that evening would also be setting on their High School baseball careers.

As true fans, we don't talk down the players who left it all on the field. And when we don't agree with the coaching decisions, we take a breath and remember the job is hard.

Bummed, I don't know if you are one of those true fans. Accepting you are not a parent or player, then you have some other motivation and we'd probably be just as well if you'd be a fan for someone else.

If you are closer to the team than you say, I hope you rethink what you've posted and make it right or just walk away and realize that no matter your unhappiness now, time will make the good memories vivid and the bad ones fade.

Rock
