Regular Showcase or Underclass?

This is the year that my son is planning to go to his first PG showcase during the summer. We received an invite last year but decided to wait. Should a 16 yo soph on JV (so far) sign up for the underclass or regular? Or should we wait until he makes Varsity to attend at all? (Varsity is tuff, school is nationally ranked).

Attend the underclassman and if he is a good student also attend the Head of class tournament as well
