Runner on third, less than 2 outs, suicide squeeze, ball bunted up in the air and caught by the 1st baseman. The runner tags home plate before the ball is caught; but immediately returns to 3rd without retagging home plate. The ball is thrown away as such the runner returns safely to third. The ball is then thrown to the pitcher who then throws the ball to the catcher to get a new ball. The catcher receives the ball with his foot on home plate. At no time does the ball become dead as it remained in the field of play, no one asked for time out and time out was not called for any reason.
When the catcher steps on home; is the runner out for not retagging after touching home on the squeeze? Or does it require an appeal to be called an out? Or does home not need to be retouched in the same manner as second and third if a runner has to return on a caught fly?
