Lots of fun news about guys many of us will recall from playing in the RVA area the past few/several years:

Cosby 2012 grad Luke Lowery tops the list, as the ECU DH just won national player of the week honors.  See http://www.ecupirates.com/spor...c-rel/031615aac.html  Luke's stat line so far this season is amazing, .480 with 8 HR's already.  Older brother Jake (Cosby 2008) had 24 HR's at JMU in 2011 en route to winning the Johnny Bench Award that year and finishing 2nd in the NCAA in HR's, so Luke is apparently determined to make a run at Jake's numbers.  BTW Jake is one of only a handful of minor league guys invited to the big league camp in the Cleveland Indians organization, so we can all hope we see Jake on TV this summer!

Jake's teammate, Will Roberts (Maggie Walker 2008, UVA alum) is in the Cleveland big league camp as well.  What are the odds that two guys who played with and against each other through their youth would end up battery mates in the same organization at the same time?

Luke's teammate Bryce Harman (L.C. Bird 2013), by the way, is also ripping the ball, hitting at a .421 clip thus far.

James River 2012/Va. Cardinals alum/current UVA Friday starter Nathan Kirby has suffered a tough 1-0 loss and another 1-run no decision so far, but his overall numbers are spectacular, and we are all pulling for him to keep rolling right through the first round of the June draft this year.

James River 2014/Va. Cardinals alum/W&M infielder Cullen Large's exploits were discussed in another thread, just named CAA player of the week, hitting .406 as a freshman and playing errorlessly at 2B as well.

Powhatan 2013/Va. Cardinals alum/Va. Tech closer Luke Scherzer is putting up some tremendous numbers this year.

Guys like these remind us that springtime is a great time to go out and see the local talent, while it's right here in front of you, for a cheap ticket.  There are plenty of guys on the fields right now who will follow in these guys' footsteps in due time.

AWESOME!!!!!

One thing is for sure - this kid is just a winner - flat out.  I have been watching this kid since he rolled through the Dominion District back in the hay-day of that league - back when the likes of Ronnie Shaban, Daniel Marrs, Matt Laney, Sean Tierney, Austin Stadler and Chris Briere were all topping 90 in the same HS conference.  Easily the best and deepest stable of talent the 804 has seen.

Tyler has been so consistent and dependable for such a long time - just what a MLB pitcher needs to be.

We wish him a long and healthy career!!!!

Tyler had his first appearance last night (9th inning down 4-1) against Seattle.  His first professional batter was former UVA teammate Chris Taylor.  Taylor popped up on the first pitch.  Then he gave up a good hit and bloop hit then induced a double play ball on a change up to the fourth hitter he faced.  No runs.  When the O's ended the inning they quickly panned the camera to his family and cheering section.   Very cool.
