Richmond Braves or Canes, which would you recommend?

Go With The Canes: Jeff Petty is a relentless worker, constantly working his connections getting his players. If you kid is a player then get him with the Canes, having said that he better be a player cause if not regardless Braves or Canes they work very hard to put the best players on the field. Playing time is based on performance not how much money you have donated to the team. Bottom line the Canes. Jeff doesnot have a kid on the team he is as objective as a coach could be. Be ready to compete. Plus the Canes have a bunch of really cool uniforms which is always important

One of the best things I could have ever done for my son, was have him play for the Richmond Braves organization. Surrounding yourself with good players makes you better.

Your not going to go wrong with either. They are both outstanding. Trying to say one is better than the other is pointless imo. One may be a better fit for a particular player than the other but that is always the case. They both have oustanding coaches , outstanding players and are well ran programs. They both have had tremendous success on the field and they both have outstanding players playing for them. It may just come down to which program is closer to you as far as travel , cost , etc.

Both are top notch organizations. I cannot speak for the Braves, but I can speak for the Canes based on firsthand knowledge.

The Canes have only been around for 3 years. In that time, we have had 105 Division I commitments as well as won a WWB Championship. 7 of our 2011's have committed to a college. Our 2010 class of Canes have 25 college commitments.

I have been most impressed with the coaches, most of them being pro scouts and all of them being very solid baseball guys. Great guys...all of them.

I can speak from first hand knowledge of both. I know Jeff Petty of the Canes and I know several of the coaches for the Braves. I have coached against both the Braves teams and Canes teams many times. Its not going to matter one bit which one you play for they are both equally outstanding. If your a player that is talented enough to play for these programs then you will get what you deserve either way you go.

The top programs are going to attract the top players. The better the players are that you play with the better player you will be. If you have a choice then fine. Its not going to matter which way you go imo. Good luck

one thing the Braves offer is a more diversity. If your child is not a big time D1 player the braves have several Scout teams that will help the kid get noticed by D2 & D3 schools.

These are two of the very best National Championship Level programs in the country.

The Canes are relatively new to the national scene, but they have quickly become one of the nation's premier programs for extremely talented players.

The Richmond Braves have a long history of being one of the very best and most respected programs in the country.

Flame thrower is correct about the Braves The National team can usually compete with anyone. The have two National Championships over the last 5 years. The 2010 team was one of their most successful teams. They won the WWBA 16u in '08, and 3rd in the WWBA 15U in '07, finished 3rd ('07) and 5th ('08) in the Jr. Olympics and were 3rd in the USSSA Elite World Series in '06 (the first year the team was formed). They also won the Tournament of Champions in '09. There are at least 25 boys who played on this team that ended up with D-1 deals. The Scout teams have produced some D-1 players but typically play a more regional schedule.

Although both put high level teams on the field, there are substantial differences in how they are funded and run, how they are managed and by whom, philosophies, playing time allotments, etc.

Which one is best for your son? Depends on your and your son's preferences. But if he's a high level player, either one can get you where you want to go.

Also be aware that they are not the only two options available to a VA player.

That relates to my original query. What are the differences? Philosophy?

I know I could ask the respective coaches of both Braves and Canes, but I would like to hear from participants.

Both teams are very well run. From what I have seen, the main philosphy of both teams is to put their players in a school where they will excel both at baseball and academically as well. With that being said, talk to the coaches and other players at tryouts and other events. This will give you an idea as to the type of program you may fit better in to.

I have to agree with this. It applies to all teams. I do know there have been some "shifts" in the Richmond Braves organization as well.

The Braves operate at several age levels. Your experience as you come along will vary greatly depending on who is running the age group your son is in. But by the high school years, you can bet the team will be exclusively comprised of top talent kids.
