Thanks to Sean and Phil for hosting a great clinic. It still boggles my mind that there aren't more local coaches there. Maybe they are going to other clinics? Two former SEC hitting coaches, ACC pitching coach, etc. With all of the travel teams and HS's in the area, it just baffles me.

Monte Lee of the College of Charleston was particularly good. He is a strong hitting guy and has his CoC program on the rise. Won the Florida regional last year and lost two 1-0 games in the Supers, if I recall correctly. Spanky McFarland, outgoing coach at JMU, gave a really interesting take on modern day baseball. Too much playing, not enough practice and physical development. Country club baseball, out of control parents...you know the drill.

Between his high school junior and senior years, my son had the privilege of being coached by Coach Lee. At the time, he was a Volunteer Assistant at Spartanburg Methodist Junior College during the school year; and, during the summer, he coached the Charleston, SC-based Diamond Devils. where he coached my son.

It didn't take long to observe that Coach Lee had found his highest and best calling, and it was no surprise to me that Coach Ray Tanner soon recruited him away from Spartanburg Methodist to join the staff at the University of South Carolina. After several years there, he became the Head Coach at the College of Charleston.

My son would tell you that he's been especially blessed over the years to play for some extremely fine coaches, and that Coach Lee stands among the best of them. Today, they're close friends.
