Just got back from the "Ripken Experience Big Kahuna" tournament in Myrtle Beach.

Had lots of fun. Son's team really struggled at the plate and as a result only won one game. He played well and had at least one hit in all games except the last one.

The fields at the facility are artificial turf, same used by three MLB teams but can't remember which ones. The overall facility is new and needs to upgrade the volume of seating and the dusty roads. Many who come to the facility fly there and of course it is not convenient to bring chairs on the airplane.

As part of the package the boys have several activities they can participate in as time allows. Includes a real neat waterpark, a Nascar Speedtrack, several miniature golf courses and two par 3 golf courses. And of course the beach is nearby.

Below is slideshow of Cody's action shots at the tournament for anybody interested in taking a peek. Just click on the slideshow icon once you enter the site.

Cool, beautiful pics, handsome kid! He looks very tall and lean, a bigger version of my 13yo who is 5'7" 117 lbs. Looks like a great experience!
My 13yo just got back from the Myrtle beach Triple Crown tourny and they won their first four and lost the last one 5-4. They had a great time playing baseball (got to play on the Coastal Carolina field) and spent some time at the beach.
Thanks Innocent.

He's about 6'0" but I don't think he has hit 130 lbs yet. Saw some of the Triple Crown action while driving around but my wife would have killed me if I had stopped to watch. That's neat that you played at the Coastal Carolina field.

Cody played 54 holes of par 3 golf and a lot of miniature golf as well as the beach, the water park and the race track. I played a little golf with him but it was too hot for me to stay out on the course too long.

Hey IB - We got back from that tourney too. Good for you that you got to play on the CC field. We had to play our early am playoff game in Loris. Overall, we had a great time, with very few ideas on how to improve things for next year. Wink (Friends at the Utrip tourney in TN had to pay to get into each venue...) Heck even the weather was perfect. We had a slight rain delay Wednesday, but that was not bad at all.

Are you with the Erie Team? Son plays with the Indians. We are totally exhausted, and only traveled 4 hours away from home.

bkekcs - we played at ripken in October but thought there were plenty of bleacher seats. I usually take a chair though since my back has aged out. One thing I loved about Cooperstown was the seating. I can't get in to see the pictures, but glad he did well at the plate!

Yes, he was with the Erie team and had a great time! I didn't get to go but it sounds like the kids had a lot of fun playing baseball and hanging out at the beach. They stayed at Myrtle beach until sunday and he got back around 9:30 sunday night.

I used to go to Myrtle Beach to visit relatives back in the 70's before all the big hotels. Just mom and pop places mingled in with cottages. Smile Glad they got to stay until Sunday. Several of our families did too. We had an obilgation over the weekend and couldn't stay. oh well.

My guy had a wonderful time too. I tried to strike up conversation with some of the parents from the other teams. Everyone was really nice and happy to be there. It's great to see so many kids playing ball.
