Son went in 2007 as a 14u. Fields are turf except at mound and home. First time he slid into third he slid right past the base about 5 feet. It was funny to see his surprise and watch him scramble back. When we were there the spectator seating was no different than you would find at a city park. Not much shade. There were golf cart shuttles to get to fields if you chose not to walk. The people running the event were friendly but during our time there no Ripkens showed up.

As for activities there are many. "Broadway at the Beach" is a neat place. The boys get passes to a local waterpark, a go-cart park with several tracks and a few mini golf courses. Never have seen so many golf courses in my life. There is a neat Mexican restaurant very near the facility and lots good eating around town. There is also a minor league baseball team in town.

For us from the mountains being there by the ocean was also extra cool.

We've played there a few times and there are plenty of things to do around Myrtle Beach. My sons have also attended Ripken tourneys in Aberdeen, MD and camps there and in our case, they only saw the Ripkens at that facility...we've never seen them in MB although I am sure they do show up to some of the events...

Both locations are top notch facilities but it does take the boys awhile to get used to sliding on the turf as bkekcs said...My son did the same at 2B and yes, it is funny to watch...
My son played there the week of June 20. Billy Ripken was at the opening ceremony and had some nice things to say to the players and parents. With the field turf your infielders can play a lot deeper and your outfields better take good angles or the ball will get by them in a hurry.

Be sure to get Danny's phone number he can get you into most restaurants without a wait.
