I'm guessing this is about money. Not sure they wanted to pay top dollar for a guy who has applied for over ten head coaching jobs in the last two years.

He was in charge of the defense and they sucked in the Super Bowl. Never made any significant changes even though the Colts were running up the middle at will; and, throwing underneath, at will.

Lovie Smith has won more games in his first three years than any Bears coach in history. You want him fired? I hear Dave Wannstadt is avaiable. So is Dick Jauron.
you want to fire a guy whose won two divison titles and a conference championship over his first three years?
I believe both Wanny and Jauron are currently employed and under contract therefore could not come back and coach the Bears if you fire Lovie.
Don't worry, all assistant contracts have an out clause if you are moving up to be head coach.
