I know it's not a big deal, but it's JR Tucker (not RJ) just in case you or someone you know applies for the job I didn't want you getting the name of the school wrong. I believe they have a pretty good tradition as recently as earlier this decade (including sending Stephen Faris to Clemson, where he was a weekend starter and was drafted last year).

They have been down recently, but I'm not sure why. The area they are in is generally considered to have a rich baseball tradition (I believe most of those kids would be products of Tuckahoe LL), but for whatever reason the school has had several tough seasons. Someone else may know the answer to this question, but were they possibly hit hard by the opening of Deep Run? I wasn't in Richmond when Deep Run opened, so I'm not sure what schools they pulled kids away from when they opened. I would have to imagine that this would be a school where the program could really come back strong similar to Henrico HS.

Tucker was hit hard by the opening of Godwin years ago, and then again by the opening of Deep Run.

Ronnie Atkins was the head coach who built that program in the '70's and early '80's before moving to the head job at UR, from which he has only now just retired. They sent many to the pros from that school, not to mention major college ball.

For what it's worth, my observation is that top flight baseball tends to emerge from the more upscale suburbs. Right now that territory in Richmond falls more to places like Deep Run, Cosby, James River, Midlothian and Godwin, and less to places like Tucker, where the base neighborhoods are starting to show their age.

Don't get me wrong, Tucker's not a bottom feeder. They are reasonably competitive. But Tucker would need to improve greatly to get back to prominence in their district. It didn't help when their best pitcher a year ago moved to Powhatan this year and helped them to the AA semis.
