Travis Beazley ’06 Named Assistant Coach at VMI

ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon Head Baseball Coach Ray Hedrick '97 announced Tuesday that assistant coach Travis Beazley '06 will be leaving the program to take a similar position at VMI beginning this fall.

Beazley, who spent three years as a part-time assistant while playing in the Boston Red Sox organization, became a full-time assistant coach prior to the 2010 season and promptly helped R-MC to its second ODAC Championship in four years and an appearance in the NCAA South Regional, serving as the program's recruiting coordinator and pitching coach.

"I have had the pleasure to work with Travis since my first days on this campus, when he was going into his junior year as a member of our team," said Hedrick. "In the seven years since that first fall, Travis has epitomized what our program is all about; ATTITUDE, EFFORT and APPROACH. He was notably successful on the field, equally as successful in the classroom, and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Travis isn't just another coach; he is one of my closest friends."

Prior to his year as a full-time assistant at RMC, Beazley spent most of three seasons in the Boston Red Sox farm system after being selected in the 38th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He pitched 370 total innings in his career, and led the Boston minor league system in wins and innings pitched during the 2007 season. While pitching for the Red Sox, he spent his fall seasons as a volunteer coach at RMC, working specifically with the pitchers and infielders.

Beazley graduated from Randolph-Macon in 2006, after a standout collegiate career. His 2006 season earned him a litany of awards, including a Second Team All-American Selection, the ODAC Pitcher of the Year honor and the ABCA/Rawlings Division III South Region Pitcher of the Year award. He was also an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA First Team All-District All-Academic Selection in 2006, and was a four-year Presidential Scholarship recipient.
