I'd like to inquire of those who have sons who play or have played college baseball what kind of support their teams have seen on the road.

Two years ago I took my son down to Storrs, CT, to watch UConn play Notre Dame. Turnout wasn't huge, but there were fans of both teams at the game. We sat in the bleachers with the ND fans and one of the ND players dad's told us about HSBBWEB.

Last year we went to watch BC play ND at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA. There were lots of fans from both teams at that game. We met an older gentleman from BC who's son also went to BC and who was there to watch his grandson who was playing for BC. We also encountered a gathering of a ND alumni group.

Last week, we went north to catch a double header between Endicott and Colby-Sawyer. There were about as many fans up for those games as were at the UConn/ND game in CT, a fact not lost on my son who's in the early stages of determining what size school, community, level of play, etc will be the best fit for him. He's picking up on the little things like fan support.

Yesterday we attended a BC/Clemson game at BC and were surprised by the large turnout of Tiger fans, most of whom had traveled quite a distance to cheer for their boys.

My question is this: what kind of support have your sons received on the road? I'm guessing that state schools have lots of fans at home games but fewer on the road because their student and alumni base are more localized but that schools who draw students from far and wide have a large road support system for exactly that reason, but I could very well be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

So how's the support for your son's team and how important is it to your ballplayer?

I would say the fan road support was minimal but you have to understand the conference road games are not just single games but three day series from Friday to Sunday and for a fan to stay the course for the series it gets quite expensive. Of course most parents ignore the cost, the inconvenience, and usually show up to support their son and his team no matter where it is played. Non-conference, mid week games, while the distance is usually not that great, the added inconvenience of a mid week game and the relative unimportance of the non-conference match-up usually doesn’t draw that many fans.
Fan support (or lack of) for baseball players in my opinion doesn’t seem to have a negative effect on the player. All athletes like the fan support but in my opinion fan support is not as big factor in swinging momentum in baseball as compared to say basketball.
