Our team went last year and the competition was very good, the weather can be cold/rainy, it is well run and the fields are good, not great (we were used to TX fields/grass/conditions). If you are going to combine it w/seeing some of the World Series Games do not rely on the General Admission tickets as you will be standing in long lines and may/may not get into the game (depending on the game day/teams). If there is a game you really want to see and have the "time" to see then take your General Admisssion ticket to the ticket gate early in the am, stand in line and trade it in for a regular admission ticket (you will have to pay the difference). Or if you want to take the chance go early and see if someone is selling tickets. Another suggestion is checking the local paper to see if a season ticket holder is selling tickets.

Purchase your tickets early (if you need extras) you can do that directly at the KC Sports site or the CWS site, and you can purchase a packet of GA tickets cheaper this way.

If seeing a CWS game is a must (which it is was for us) plan your trip to arrive a day or two ahead of the Road to Omaha tourney or extend your trip after to ensure time to see a game.

Like Cooperstown you must book hotel rooms EARLY..........We went through a booking agent STI Housing for our rooms and had good luck in getting a place but once we were there we had a problem with a room and they never returned a phone call to help solve this issue.......If you can find them on your own that would be my suggestion.

Like the Cooperstown tourney for 12yr olds this is a great tourney esp. for those in the 16U age group.......

There are 2 tourneys run during the CWS, the one we went to was KC Sports and the other one a friend went to and from what I was told the competition was not as good, not as many teams and the fields were not very good at all.

Book it early, I think we booked this trip the November before we went and did hotels in Jan. if not sooner. You can find a lot of info on these 2 sites:

CWS: www.cwsomaha.com

KC Sports: www.kcsports.org
and go to Road to Omaha section. They are very helpful via email or phone.

Good Luck and if you go have a great time it is another baseball experience our family will always remember.

old bat,

Good advice especially on the ticket situation. Last year I waited in line for nearly 4 hours to get some players into the Miami - LSU game with general admin tickets.

I would have to disagree about the weather though. It certainly can rain a little but it will not be cold and will most likely be quite warm.

We were up there last year and must have hit the coldest weekend ever. Us Texas folks had to go out and purchase sweatshirts, steal blankets (oops I mean borrow) from our hotel and pray we had enough pants to wear.... I did hear it can be quite warm up there and I hope to make another trip (hopefully during a warmer weekend) to the CWS w/o having to juggle tourney games in between......

The people in Omaha are just wonderful and the atmosphere at the CWS is just great.......

And the FOOD AT THE CWS is the BEST.......Come ready to watch a great match-up and Eat, Eat, Eat.

Old bat,

It is an outstanding event. The people of Omaha really appreciate the privilege of hosting this event and take pride in making it better each year. The food is tough to beat at the park or around town.

I hope everyone has a chance to attend some time.

If I remember last year's final weekend was unusually cool. Midweek it was hot as it usually is and the wind usually blows towards left.

Any one going should bring a jacket along as it normally drops to around 60 at night.

Coming from Ohio, we'll be used to it! Wink
We went as 10 year olds last year and even with the rain ruining the start of the Tourney they pulled it off with out a hitch. The Zoo is a must see and is located right next to the ballpark, so you can go to the zoo in the morning and park in their lot and not have to move your car for the games later in the afternoon. We will be going again this year. If you plan on doing this Tournament get your application in by mid-Nov because it fills up quickly and I am pretty sure you have to use STI housing for all hotel reservations during this time period.
Cntrfieldsmom,

I live an hour and a half north of Rosenblatt just over the South Dakota border. How about you?

When you are looking for a hotel, be sure to look at hotels in Council Bluffs Iowa. Most are closer to the stadium also. There are a few large hotel/casinos within 3 miles of the ball park on the Iowa side you might want to check out. Harrah's and Ameristar.

If anyone is going to the CWS championship weekend, there will be plenty of rooms although they are reserved now but many people and teams are gone by then.

We stayed in Bellevue and it wasn't a bad drive either to the field's.

One thing to remember, if you have a tournament game scheduled anytime around the time they are playing at Rosenblatt plan on extra time as the traffic can be bad...

Also, if you are going to a CWS game, take a shuttle, carpool or go EARLY, we found some great parking just North I believe, over the interstate bridge by a hotel in a large lot (paid) and it was an easy walk plus easy to get back on the freeway after the game.

If you are into military aircraft and things the SAC headquarters museum is very nice. It is a drive but a nice scenic country drive.

Check out the food as you walk into the park on the perimeter of the complex (after you have walked through the gates).... There is usually local restaurants with boots with bar b que and other good stuff....

If you

SBK, the Sioux Falls area. You must be in Sioux City. I have checked Council Bluffs and the casinos, I'm just to cheap to pay $200 for a hotel that normally runs $50 Wink. I've stayed in Omaha often, so am familiar. Thanks for the advice. Harrahs could be dangerous, and I could lose my hotdog and coke money laugh

Garland,
I got one at the KOA (never my first choice, but wasn't a choice) Here's the link....KOA They had 3 sites left the other day. Good luck. Let me know if you get something.

Maybe we should start a post regarding the CWS and share hotel and other info. We may get a network going and if someone needs to cancel etc, we can help each other out.
I wanted to bump this to see who is going in 2006. I'm getting ready to submit the registration and was curious.

Also, I know STI won't be ready to do the hotel reservations till sometime in January. It sounds like some people have done the rooms on their own and I was wondering how much you save by going through STI, if any.
Just learned the other day that my son's team will be going to the Triple Crown Omaha tourney. They will be playing in the 13u Division 2 bracket. Looking at the teams that are coming to the two different tournaments (KC Sports and Triple Crown) it looks like both have some very good teams coming, at least in the 13u brackets.

My son's team went last year and the temp's were in the upper 80's low 90's. We had a great time. It gave us a real chance to see what kind of competition there was. Just when you think you have a good team you see how easily you can get beat.

I would definately do it. It's worth It. I also agree about the comment about World Series tickets!
Beezer,
I volunteered to handle the rooms for our team in Omaha last year. I set up an account at STI, and looked at the various hotels they had- very early maybe the first day they were available. Many were in Lincoln, almost an hour away. Many had only a hand full of rooms, and we wanted to stay together. Ended up with a hotel in town, but rooms were $151 a night. Natives were restless, but it was the only good option with STI last year. When we got there, the hot water was on the fritz, more restless natives. Don't think I will volunteer to handle reservatiions this time. Don't think we saved any $, but we had rooms.
