I loved Roberto. I grew up in a tiny farming town in Pennsylvania about 2 hours north of Pittsburgh. I was 11 years old during the 1971 World Series in which he was the MVP. Back then, games were played during the day and they would bring a TV in the classroom to watch the World Series. Any person - no matter the age, could tell who the best player on the field was and the field was littered with Hall of Famers on both sides between the Orioles and the Pirates. He had an unbelievable arm throwing guys out at third and/or home from the fence in right field. He was a five tool guy imho. Finished the 1972 season with exactly 3,000 hits and sadly a few months later was killed in a plane crash that was in flight to help earthquake victims. One of a kind.
