Maris is a sentimental favorite for sure, but I think the only piece of Maris that will ever be in the hall of fame is his bat and uniforms....

Just doesnt seem to have the numbers......

lifetime .260 hitter........had All-Star years from 59-62...of course league MVP in '60 '61...one gold glove....

in comparison think Eric Davis or Jay Buhner type stats.......

Can anyone explain Maris and 61 HRs in 1961 while he never had more than 39 before or after the '61 season ?

His bat goes into the hall but not him

I have seen no proof of McGwire taking steroids--he admitted he took over the counter supplements which were "legal" when he used them

You have to wonder how many other players used the same "legal" substances and did not do what he did

Keep in mind when he was a rookie he had 49 HRs and would have had 50 or more if not hurt--the year he went crazy was the only year he was not bothered by injuries, perhaps becaus e of the "legal"" supplement he was taking.
