I'm not sure I know exactly what a role model is. I think I know what a role model SHOULD be or what I WANT them to be but when my kids were growing up they didn't allow ME to pick THEIR role models. Confused Can there be role models that are "bad" role models? For instance: Could a police officer be a role model to some kids while a gang leader be a role model to other kids? Help set me straight.

Historical Profile of HSBBW

This is a quote from December 6, 2005

"There is much evil in the world, Bullwinkle. It has always been thus. And so our ancestors built this web site and developed the art of humor so they might cultivate virtue and protect themselves from harm. But whatever one man possesses another will covet. The Emperors Larry, Moe & Curly heard of our prowess. So they sent an army of Knuckleheads to burn the web site to the ground. Only five escaped. They made their way to Minnesota and re-founded the HsbbWeb to overthrow the Knuckleheads and restore Emperess Julie to the throne. Wit became their tool and baseball was their diversion. Thus the honorable “Bob the head bottle washer” has said, 'By ethical argument and moral principle, the greatest wit are shown to have been necessary and in fact a great benefit for mankind.' Two hundred years have passed. The Emperor Larry, Moe and Curley still sit upon the throne. Ridiculousness still exists, but only for a noble few. They are the children of the five posters who went to Minnesota long ago.'" - Master Fungo

Many years have passed Grasshopper. My sense of reality has been pounded by reality itself. I have figured out this crazy world out many times only to find the equation doesn't balance. One would think that at my age I would have all the answers --- maybe I do and I just forgot where they are. You may not understand for moose is not man ---- moose never changes and always remains the same --- except during the rut. Man is always changing --- or am I the only man that is changing. Whatever ---- Help me uncross my legs ---- I have a yellow book commercial to do.
I have found that the grestest role models are the most overlooked.

What greater role models than parents who care for and nurture their children?

Heroes on the other hand have enjoyed fleeting fame or renown only to return to their plow or other daily occupation.

The media today puts people in the limelight, only to scrutinize and publicize their frailties in some perverse attempt to demonize them.

It is not enough to play by the rules anymore because too many people have their own rules that they expect a role model to conform to.

In the past, heroes were killed off by those jealous or fearful of their popularity. Today, there are media types who seek nothing better than a weak moment or a bad decision to be made by the hero to knock them off the pedestal that they the media have set that hero upon.

It is a sad commentary that our governments and media would rather maintain the herd by culling those of greater talent or virtue.

Teach your children that though there is safety in the herd, there is risk and possibly greater joy in excelling.
