I'm looking at a D2 who has a proven reputation of going with a 35 man roster, max.

From what I can tell, they had 10 grads from 2019 commit there and 7 of the 10 were on the team as freshman this spring (before things shut down). Not sure on the other 3 but it looks like there were mitigating circumstances that prevented them from playing...maybe? All of the 7 are now listed as being on the roster this year as sophomores.

Also on the roster for 2021 are 14 freshman - of which I see that 11 had committed there before finishing HS. (Maybe the other 3 did as well but just didn't report it to PG or PBR?)

That's 21 underclassmen for 2021. Is that atypical? Note that this program has a history of playing well and reaching regionals consistently.

There's currently only one 2021 committed and I know the school is talking to a few 2022s now. Is it possible that the school will be recruiting light from the 2021 and 2022 classes because they already have 21 players who could be there for the next 4 years?

Or, are some of the 21 possibly facing cuts next spring?

If they recruited 14 for the ‘21 class chances are they will do the same for ‘22. Chances are half of the 14 won’t be around for year two or they will be done playing. Then it replays again each year. Welcome to realityland.

I went back a few more years, and it does look like they have at least 10 freshman every spring.

So, it's sort of like HS...half the freshman team will be gone before they ever make varsity?

I just checked College Baseball Insights and this D2 has a historically low freshman attrition rate. And, in general, the attrition rate is much lower than others in their conference. Given that they bring in 10+ freshman a year, does that mean they recruit well and don't have many misses on their commits?

In normal times, bringing in ten wouldn't be uncommon or necessarily  a problem.  Attrition can happen a variety of ways - graduation, injury, transfer, cut, ineligibility, quit.  But, of course, these are not normal times.

Son's mid-major D1 had a roster of 38 last year, including 15 freshmen.  36 return, including all but one freshman (and all seven seniors).  They bring in 12 incoming freshmen, so there are currently 26 frosh on the fall roster (with a total of 48).  I'm not sure if they'll cut some or ???  But it will certainly be crowded with underclassmen for a few years anyway.  All the more important for the player to ask specific questions as to where they see him fit.
