Finally got to make a start this year.
However it didn't go as I planned.
My line was 3.2 INN, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Hopefully I do better next time. I just sucked today. I guess I should have made better pitches, although I was pleased with almost all of the pitches I made.

Guess we should get rid of all of these guys. My guys struggle as well. They often say, "Coach, please don't call those pitches, pickoffs, defenses etc. so we can have a chance to win. Everyone has your signs!" Sometimes they add in, "you imbecile!"

At least you had a good does of humble pie before you posted this about your coach.
yea....I have been frustrated with that as well. My coach pretty much calls fastballs and some curves. One game I was VERY frustrated, pitching against a school into the 5th inning with no runs and about 7 k's. I had given up 2 hits but then I got two outs and the next batter I had an 0-2 count on and the coach called for a fastball while I had been gettin all the batters out with my curve. So i threw a fastball and the guy got a hit and the run scored. And we lost that game 2-1.
As a youth coach, I call all the pitches. My pitchers shake my signs off half of the time anyway. I do it just so they know what I would call. However, if they aren't confident in a certain pitch (or for whatever the reason; thats fine. I might ask why after the inning is out. But my kids know that when I call signs, it is only my recommendation, not the law.

As a picthers dad, I perfer to have my sons call the game because they know what they feel comfortible with and what is working well that day.

I was lucky, my sons coach allowed both of them to call their own games (with the catchers of course), while calling the game for most of the other pitchers.

HOWEVER, I take great exception to your statements.

Most coaches who call the games do so for a number of reasons.

1) Because they have about a million years more experience then their players.

2) To take the pressure off the pitchers/catchers and just let them worry about playing the game.

3) As a means of teaching the players.

4) Some players are not ready to be given that level of responsibility.

Any and all of these reasons are valid.

Not to belittle anyone… People have the ability to be anonymous on the messageboard, I suppose it’s harmless so long as names aren’t thrown out there.

Please ask yourself….

What would a college coach or pro scout think if he heard what "Titan12" and "micdsguy" were saying here? I understand the frustration but… You guys might be better off to keep those thoughts to yourself.

Better yet... If you really feel that way, you might want to readjust your thinking. Blaming others is for the fans, not the players!

With my coach, there is just added pressure when you have to make the pitch they call.
You can't miss a pitch with my coach.
When they are calling the game, oh man there is so much more pressure added to my shoulders and every other pitcher on the team agrees. I try to let it go and go after the next guy, but if you were in my posistion, you'd understand why it's so **** difficult to just let it go.
Does anyone have any advice on how to forget about the comments the coach says to you while on the mound?

And to PGStaff, thanks for reading my entire first message and getting to the "Hopefully I do better next time. I just sucked today. I guess I should have made better pitches" line.
Who's being blamed there?

I thought it was stressed that if you were going to start, you should have at least 3 good pitches. I worked so hard to develop three good pitches, and I didn't even use my best offspeed pitch in the game.

Anyway I'm just lucky I get another chance next Wednesday or Thursday with the way I pitched the other day. I'll do my best to throw what they call, but hopefully I get to throw more offspeed to keep them guessing. They were sitting on the fastball the second time around it seemed the other day. Frustrating as heck when you're throwing the same stuff as you were the first few innings, but now they are crushing it the next few.

I think the disconnect is the execution of the pitch by the pitcher. A fastball belt high down the middle is not the same as fastball low and away on the corner or inside on the corner. The coach may call for the fastball low and away and you throw a meatball then that is the pitchers fault.

Work on location and changing speeds.

Well the trouble yesterday was the ump set his strike zone from the waist to the letters(No problem there), so I had to adjust to that. However I mentioned I throw sinkers, so I had a hard time adjusting. I kept throwing it right above the knees(which the coach wants), however the ump wouldn't call it. So I adjusted and had to put in his zone. Even on the pitches on the corners, the hitters nailed it. So the coach got on me for leaving it up. That's where the frustration set in.
Anyone have advice for me there? Go for what the ump wants, or go for what the coach wants?

The key here is never, Never, NEVER post soemthing when you are angry/frustrated.

Take the time to calm down then think about what you want to say/ask. Think to your self, would I want my coach(or whoever) to read what I just wrote? If not, don't post it!

It took me 53 years to learn this Wink and I still fail to follow that rule sometimes Roll Eyes.

Well I made the necessary adjustments to my original post.
