Situation:
Bases loaded, nobody out, grounder to short. Toss to second baseman, who tries to throw to first for the second out, but the runner slid into him past the bag.

Umpire calls interference. OK so far.

He said it was a dead ball, R3 and R2 had to return to their bases, and R1 and batter were out. So there were now two outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd, and no run scored.

Is that correct? Seems pretty severe that no runner can advance. Even if there was no interference and the double play was executed, there would have been a run scored.

(Incidentally, this call went in my son's team's favor. Made more so by the fact that I don't think we had a chance to turn the DP anyway, since the grounder was slow and the batter/runner was fast.)
