Runner stops going to 1b | High School Baseball Web

A quick question regarding the rule for a batter-runner who goes to first, but stops in the middle of the baseline. Let's say it is a bunt play and the 1b fields it, then the batter-runner stops in the middle of the baseline to have the first baseman come to him so that the other runner(s) can advance. When is the batter-runner out? When he stops and stands there, or when he retreats to home, etc? Have heard a few different things. NCAA level-play, if it matters.

Perfectly legal to stop in the baseline and even retreat. He would be out if he reached the plate.

Dash and Jimmy are all over this. The reason for different opinions is it is different in FP softball.
