Do you as coaches feel rusty as you begin the season? We had a scrimmage today and I didn't feel very sharp calling pitches (it was also hard because of mostly having to call fastballs). I also had a runner tag up and the centerfielder nailed him at the dish.

Speaking of getting a runner hosed, what's some things you use to know when to send someone and when not to? I know the outfield arms and speed of the player have to be considered, but what's some other things you take into consideration. I am talking about rules written in stone. Thanks.
I have a love and passion for this game, and I want to be a great coach!!!

Nicholas of course their is a time early in the season where we as coaches can be rusty. Just like the players it has been a while and we need to get back in the "coaching" groove, so don't worry about it. As far as tagging rules, there are so many it is hard to list them all, but they depend on game situations. Are you 5 runs down? Is it early or late in the game? Example, if I had a fast guy at 3rd with no outs and it was an everage fly ball and I had my 2-3 hitters coming up, then no I don't tag, with 1 out I might. You have to take into consideration so many things that it is hard to give hard rules, plus all coaches are different which makes it great. What I can say if you have no outs don't be as risky, with 1 out slightly more. Obviously I mean when the ball is hit there are no outs so that will be the first out, with one out then the fly ball will be out number 2, but arm strength, how deep the fly ball is and speed with the runner are just as important.
