Horizon League
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Ryan Zink, So., Illinois-Chicago (*9-3, *2.07, 96 IP/92 SO).

Player of the Year: Ryan Zink, rhp, Illinois-Chicago.

TOP PROSPECTS, 2005-06 DRAFTS
1. #Ryan Zink, rhp, Illinois-Chicago.

The Flames are favored to win again as they return sophomore RHP Ryan Zink (9-3, 2.07) and all-league 2B Bryan Russo (.330-5-26). Zink, who walked 15 and struck out 92 in 96 innings with a fastball that touches 93 mph, is the conference's best prospect but won't be eligible for the draft until 2006 . . .

Thanks all. It's always hard to tell what the year will bring and as Ryan would say pre-season honors are usually nothing more than something to hang your winter hat on.

However, this news does throw a little warmth on the -20 wind chill projected for tonite through the weekend.

Also a big time kudo to Stickwatchers son Larry "Stuff" Gempp Jr also selected to the pre-season conference team after a huge year at Lake County JC. The HSBBW is well represented at UIC in the Windy City.
Congrats to Ryan and Stuff.

Haven't seen either one play but I hear scouts talk that Zink is "the real deal".

If he stays healthy, look for him to go higher in the draft than Curtis Granderson (a 3rd rounder out of UIC about 2-3 years ago) from TFSouth, drafted by the Tigers and should be battling for a spot in the Tigers outfield in the springtime.

Best wishes to all: Zink and Gempp; and, of course, to the pro...Granderson.
