You guys should be glad the Sliders are organizing this tourney. Looking at their revised schedule, it seems like they are bending over backwards to work around the rain and make the games happen. I noticed they even have games scheduled to begin at 11:45 p.m. and midnight tonight!

That has sadly not been the case for us at the Houston Heat 18U tourney this weekend. Very poor planning, execution, and communication.

svranger,

I brought my son to the South Texas Slider's Tournament last year and this year. Both years we've had rain, but it didn't diminish the quality people that work together to put on a great 40 team tournament.

This year the organizers took, what seemed like to this parent, every measure possible to get as many games as they could before the rains came.

I'm sure no one wanted the tournament canceled, but that was out of the director's control.

My hat's off to the ST Slider organization and all the "team" players that opened their fields, and gave of their time to put on a great tournament.

Thanks!

My apologies to anyone who had to travel to South San...(That would be South San Antonio HS)

We played at this field and it was fine. Smile

Blossom and UTSA were very nice but South San Antonio HS was fine too.

My only frustration with SA was that every highway I traveled on within the city was under construction (chalk that up to bad luck). Smile

Oh, and there were way too many Spurs fans ... Big Grin
They need a better battle cry....Go Spurs Go ??

I just believe comments like that are
uncalled for.

I suspect that was probably a comment on the South San field. I know the last time I was at that particular field, it was in very poor condition. One of the worst HS fields I had seen at the time. Hopefully it is being better maintained now.

Maybe I was wrong however the way I took the comment had nothing to do with the fields. If I was wrong I apologize but to me it was a slam on the south side of San Antonio which is a low income area of the city. No one that was here made any comment about the fields or the area that is why I felt this comment was uncalled for. Especially if you were not playing in this tournament.

If he was talking about the fields then I apologize
however if he was not here then the comment still was not called for.

I have no complaints with fields in Houston or Dallas both have grrat facilities. My point was every city has parts of town like the southside of San Antonio.
We played in a 16U wood bat tournament last weekend in San Antonio. The weather was beautiful and the college fields we played on were awesome. All of our parents and players had a wonderful time, but the construction everywhere was kind of a nuisance. Last year we played in the Sliders tournament and the area driving to the Smithson Valley HS from San Antonio and surrounding the school is absolutely gorgeous. My family was very curious as to who lives in the big house on the hill that overlooks that high school?!?! Eek
Glad you enjoyed San Antonio. Our apologies about all the traffic and construction. Please believe me when I say it's driving us crazy too!

Don't know who owns that big house overlooking Smithson Valley. We've often wondered ourselves. It seems a bit strange with all the palm trees -- better suited for the Gulf Coast than the Hill Country!
Svranger,
Obviously we both know the city. But in no way did I mean the area. The last time I saw it, the field conditions were...less than ideal. But obviously the field caring has improved greatly.

Also, a better question would be how much that big house costs. It looked expensive enough when they were putting in the gate for that thing a few years ago.

Sv, I should apologize. My post was rather ambiguous, I should have been more specific. The South Side of SA is actually quite vibrant if you take a second to look.
