As a father of two boys that played for Towny's AAU Blaster program & attended many of his clinics & camps, I can truly say that he made more of a positive impact on each of them as baseball players & young men then he'll ever know. Our family's prayers go out to Cathy, Sean, Chase & the rest of the Townsend family during their time of greef. Towny will greatly be missed, but never be forgotten.
I posted in the general forum on this but I will repeat it here. My deepest condolences to Towny's family and friends. I agree - a great baseball man and person has passed.
Our family also sends its deepest condolences. I cant pretend to know how tough it has been on Chase going to school and playing ball in Fredricksberg while his dad and family were down here. But I know it was tough. I do know Towny was going to Chase' games as often as he could and the sparkle was still in his eyes when he was there at the ballpark. RIP Towny.
What a wonderful coach, and more importantly, person he was. He will be missed, but with the life he lived and the lessons he taught, I have no doubt that he is now playing contentedly on that special "Field of Dreams" that we all strive for. God bless Towney, and hit 'em where they ain't.
In 1970 we played American Legion together for Post 204...his inspiration and love for the game during that time never change to this day...in those days his presence on the field made everybody around him a better ball player....and when his playing days were done... he took that inspiration and love for the game and made sure every young man he touched a better ball player than he....thats what made him special. Thanks Towny.
I wanted to say something on behalf of my family. The things you people have posted online here mean a lot to me, my mother, and brother. We have printed all of these things out and will save them. Many of you I know personally, but many people have come foreward and shared priceless stories with me about my father. People that my dad passed by in his life that I have never met or had the pleasure to meet. It was nice to know that we did not house the burden and pain of his death alone. Thank You All. I have said it before on here, baseball people are truly the best people.
