Wrong. The Yankees sock money back into the team to make sure they're competitive every year. Not like some cheapskate organizations who hoard every penny and unwilling to put the money back into their teams to make them competitive.

Teams like the Yankees give handouts every year thru the luxury tax so there's no excuse for these organizations to spend the money to compete.

When teams win, the fans fill the stadium. Filling the stadium brings in big bucks. If the fans don't support the teams, then ownership needs to move them to a city where they will.

zomby has a great point.

The MLB team here in North Texas spends as little as possible to get by. When interviewed, Tom Hicks, the owner, talks about the bottom line financially and how the team has to be prudent with its free agent dollars.

The owner of the NFL team in North Texas, Jerry Jones, by contrast, will spend whatever he can to win championships, sometimes even making some questions signs...but all in the name of success.

Give me the latter every time.
Zoomby & Tycho - I agree with you on the concept of spending. I was merely being a tad bit facetious. It drives me up a while....like fingernails on a chalkboard....when the Yankess do well and people say "They bought that World Series trophy". Yes, the Steinbrenners have been known to spend freely, no question there. But I love the fact that as a fan, I can count on them to do everything they can to put a winning team on the field. And obviously, spending is not a direct correlation to winning as evidenced this year.

That's all you want. A shot to win it every year. They still have to spend on the right players and mix in young hungry talent and pitching of course.

As much as I hate Dallas being a life-long Giants fan, I like the way they go after the big time players. I wish the NY Giants to be more like that but with a super bowl and a new GM who's a great talent evaluator, signs players who earned the pobig payday, makes it a bit easier, but if there's ever a bidding war for a big time player, I know Dallas would be far more aggressive.

Yes RJM teh YES network brings in millions for the Yankees.

IMO, it'a all about putting a good product on the field to fill the stands each and every night and marketing the brand and that will be George's legacy. He also was never afraid to spend money, unlike some other teams I know, including one here in South Florida who want the taxpayers to pay for their stadium. Roll Eyes

BTW, I got this from another site, discussion about the Cardinals being "cheap".
