salukis bow to Notre Dame for 6th straight time

SIU-C played in an invitational tourney at San Antonio Texas hosted by Notre dame.. The salukis won 3 out of 4 games but failed to defeat Notre Dame in their 6th straight attempt.

Salukis defeated Pan Am of Texas 16-8, defeated Buffalo 9-8 and lost to Notre Dame 4-0. Salukis now return home to host Murray State Univ on Tuesday. Their overall record is 8-7

Hitting star in the ND Invitational was BRETT MAUGERI who spent some time in the outfield. Maugeri had 5 hits in the 3 games including 2 against ND while the team only had 4 hits total

Maugeri hit the ball very well on Sunday when given the oppotunity to play. SIU couldn't come up with the big hit when needed against Notre Dame. They did have their opportunities though.
Billy Boockford played a nice game for the Irish.

SIU needs a fire lit under their collective rear ends. Pitching has been average to below average at best, defense has been ugly and hitting comes and goes. I've only seen a handful of games(6), but if they don't get it together soon it will be a long season for the Dawgs and will get real short when it comes tournament time.
