My 16 year old 09 just attended a camp put on by Sam Houston State and really enjoyed the experience. I have looked at their website and would like any personal observations about the coaches and BB program. Thanks.
My son has friends playing at Sam and they love Mark Johnson! Mark Johnson was the former coach of the Aggies. The facilities are incredible and lots of good things happening at Sam. 3 players on the Wallace Watch list, 2007 Southland Conference Tournament Champion, a trip to the regionals last year, lots of great players recruited, and lots of support. It will be fun watching them this spring!
Leftydad is full of information on Sam - give him a PM.
Give Johnson a couple of years and A&M will regret getting rid of him. He is a great motivator. He will get all 120% out of every player and they will all jump of a cliff for the guy. His 2008 signing class is outstanding and he recruited heavily locally. He did not have to go to Canada.
Johnson is well thought of and a good person. I think he really got motivated when he went to Sam Houston. A renewed energy so I have been told. That is great. I must say that A&M is doing very well with Coach Childress and is well thought of among his players and peers. However, it is wonderful to hear a long time coach having success after being let go.
It sure is a reflection of Coach Johnson that all the replies to my question about Sam Houston State and the coaching staff have been very positive. My son attended three college camps, A TPX TOPPS 96, a tryout set up by his travel team coach, and played in a showcase wooden bat Fall league and was most impressed by Coach Johnson. As he is only a junior, we are going to attend a lot more events in 2008. Thanks so much for the good information.
