Watched some pretty good baseball yesterday at Tony Gywnn stadium. The venue is just great for high school baseball. The place was packed for D1 finals and even the D4 had a good size crowd.
In D1, Rancho Bernardo just hits the cover off the ball and Brian Wilson pitched a good game. I'm surprised he doesn't have a scholarship in hand. RB 8, Granite Hills 2.
Grossmont stages a strong comeback to win the D2 title. Their catcher crushed a home run. El Cap won the previous two years -- pretty strong programs out in the east county. Grossmont 7, El Capitan 2.
Uni had too much for Coronado, but give Coronado credit for their first appearance in the finals. I think both teams may have been a little out of pitching playing three games this week. USDHS 12, Coronado 7.
D4 was a pitcher's duel, won 2-1 in 8 innings. SFC's Kirwan pitches out of trouble in several innings and there was some pretty good defense played by both teams, although SFC's winning run was unearned. Horizon's starting pitcher Winnick was dominant on the mound with 10 K's. Santa Fe Christian 2, Horizon 1
If you're looking for a great day of baseball, check out Tony Gwynn stadium at SDSU next year. $9 for four games is a bargin.
