The Torrey Pines Falcons Played their first round game against #9 seed La Costa Canyon and came away victorious 4-0. The game was a nail biter through 5 innings with the score going 0-0. Eric Hillenbrand started on the hill and pitched a complete game four hit shutout 4-0 with no walks. Hillenbrand kept the Mavericks off pace with his curve, change and sinker then pounding fastballs away. Eric was very sick last night and up most the night throwing up yet still found determination to come out and play through the illness and ended up pitching one of his best games all season. The big stars in this game was really the bottom of Torrey Pines lineup this time. Kevin Vance went 2-3 with two runs. Jerrud Sabourin also went 2-3. A big single and RBI and run scored by Nick Rodes. Robby Vetter caught the entire game doing an amazing job getting a key hit going 1-2 with 1 BB. At the top of the order TJ Filicia went 1-3 with 1 RBI and Kevin Silvett going 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 Double. But one of the most exciting plays was executed by pinch runner Michael Dearborne stealing two bags running from first to third on a passed ball then scoring the run as well.
